If you've got an advertising agency you know how stressful it can be to try to make ends meet, try to attract new clients, and try to prove yourself in the often cutthroat world of advertising. However, there are some things that you can do to have a better chance at succeeding, and if you make the right kind of effort you can become a top advertising company. First, you'll always want to take the lead in conversations that involve issues about the return on investment that advertising offers. Don't get stuck stumbling around trying to say how great it is without numbers to back it up. You need to know the facts, and that will help you out a great deal. Another thing that you have to do is find a way to differentiate yourself from the crowd. If you can't show why your agency is different than you can't convince the potential customers that you can show their customers that they are different. Wow them.

You have to communicate with those who you work with and for. Advertising is important, but there is a different kind of advertising that involves communication, and that's the kind of advertising that you need to do. You need to build relationships with your clients and help them build relationships with their customers. If you challenge the industry and what it sees as orthodox behaviour – and you do it correctly – you can go a long way. People like something different. They want to see new things. Unfortunately, a lot of people go about that in the wrong way and it backfires. You can avoid that if you're careful and if you learn about what really, truly works and use it. Don't keep doing things that don't have any meaning just because you think they've always been done that way, and if you try something and can't make it work, be sure to stop, regroup and do something else. Don't keep pouring good money into something bad, no matter what else is going on. It sounds easy to do these things but it can really be quite difficult, so take your time and learn all you can to help you stay on top.
